A history

Serving Kent for over a century

The evolution of Commercial Services is entwined with the development of Kent County Council. Over the last 125 years, KCC has expanded its local government responsibilities and budget and today spends around £1 billion on services for over 1.5million residents. Similarly, its 'Stores' function has grown from an 'Education Committee sub committee', started at the turn of the last century, into one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.

The following dates trace our journey from a stores department with four staff supplying educational establishments with books, stationery and equipment, to an operation with four divisions, purpose-built warehouses, a turnover in excess of £400million and over 540 staff.
