Our Energy Division turns 30
2019 marks LASER’s 30th birthday. The celebrations begin to mark this tremendous milestone.
As a company, LASER has grown a huge amount since 1989 when they employed only 3 staff to purchase oil for a handful of customers in the South East. 30 years later, LASER have grown to over 80 employees and offer a vast variety of energy services including LED Lighting, Water and Energy Bureau services to over 200 customers across the UK.
We asked Nigel Hartnup, LASER’s Energy Director, what things were like when he first joined LASER and here is he what he said…
How long have you worked at LASER?
12 years in total, 4 of them as the Energy Director.
Describe your first day in the office
I was given a 3-foot high pile of papers that related to about a dozen queries (back then we had to print out and file every email, screenshot, picture etc. that related to an update we made in our system and I was asked to read through each of them and suggest what we do next.
How much has LASER changed since your first day?
Massively - it’s almost unrecognisable. The main changes have been how our services have evolved, how our solutions are more customer focused and how much more we use technology (we used to have to queue at the fax machine on occasions). The consistent element is that we have a team that are determined to deliver good outcomes for our customers.
Can you tell us in a few words why you like working for LASER?
I like that we genuinely make a difference in the work we do. We save time and money for the public sector, which in turn ensures our customers can focus on delivering their frontline services and reduces the council tax for everyone.
